Surf And TurfIf you have been around long enough, you will know that certain industries have a battle with the sexes. What I mean by this is who is trying to be better than the other, whilst we are making an effort to leverage the status of woman in general. Or are we not trying hard enough. Some industries have tried to equalize woman. An example of that is Marvel and Disney, hiring woman as there leads over the white male actor. We can debate about that for hours but for now this blurb is about why woman are not made to be equal as men. I think for one, way back before any of this came to light the stereo type of all woman should be in the kitchen is something of the past and if you ever brought that up in a conversation then god help you. But who is making the effort to make woman equal? It starts with the high-powered people from the top, doesn’t it? Or the ones that have the authority to promote and make the decisions that can make woman more equal. This has been happening the last 6-8 years but, I don’t think it is happening enough. We are seeing coloured people gain more opportunities in the work sector in high-profile industries such as in the film and music, which in turn has liberated the world we live in but is that enough? Or more to the point is that going to make society in general change so we can live in a better world? Maybe, but it doesn’t look like it will happen anytime soon, in my opinion it is about the mindset of the person that will make a difference to if and when this will happen. All of this is food for thought. But for now enjoy “Surf and Turf” Geoffrey Chuah’s new short film, all footage was taken from Edit Fest competition that he entered a couple of months ago. Turning a CornerTurning the corner is something that everyone does at some stage in their life, and for LaMode magazine this is nothing new. When you have been doing something for so long and you know it is your passion, and then you learn a new skill, and find that you really enjoy doing it. Slowly you can call it your new passion or we could call it your passion number two. And then slowly but surely you find it takes over passion number one. What do you do? You follow it and make sure that it is enslaved into yourself, to make sure that it is there for ever? And where is this going you ask? Have you been through a career change? LaMode magazine new love for video editing is slowly taking over the love of photography. Don’t worry LaMode will always be shooting stills, but with the world changing at such a speedy rate. Video is something that we cannot pass up. Technology has a lot to do with it. Computers, mirrorless cameras, and light sources that seem to be getting smaller but still being able to pack a punch. The programs that enable you to create, what we only dreamed of doing 20 years ago. Can now be done inside your home, and with a bit of skilling up, you can shoot and edit a short film in next to no time. That is why you have seen a video as well as stills in almost every LaMode editorial from the last 18 months. And that is why you will be seeing and hopefully watching all the future videos that I have edited for LaMode magazine. We are not saying that video editing is easy to do, like reading a book, far from it. What LaMode is trying to do is embrace what is in the now. On that note, LaMode magazine has a hat full of new content on its way, some of it has been shot and edited recently and some of it a few months ago but we only have now decided to publish it, which will be very soon. So, till we publish all the new editorials for you to read and check out. Enjoy Turning of the Corner. Shot and edited by Geoffrey Chuah |
