My back yard my play ground my Hood. Redfern......The place were I call home. I have been living in this suburb for two and a half years now and my word I have seen some stuff that you wouldn't normally see anywhere else in Sydney. But on saying that it is by far not a ruff neighbourhood or is it on the down side if anything more and more people are moving here for it's culture and I mean the Aboriginal culture is going strong.
When I decided to spend the day documenting Redfern I really wasn't sure how I was going to approach shooting it. Trying to see this part of my world with fresh eyes is not always easy when you have lived here for so long. But I hope I have enlighten my readers with my point of view of this part of Sydney the place I call home. Look out for part two later on this week. With Summer coming towards us at a rate of knots I thought posting this swim story that I shot last February would be most appropriate. This was the second time I have shot Tayla and has you can see the shoot was so much fun. I styled it myself......I pulled from three brands that are going to be in my swim book "Surface to Soul" dropping really soon. The location was a last minute decision. It's a beach not that far out from Sydney called North Narrabeen, it has everything from bush scrub to a pond and a amazing surf. As for the shoot Tayla is effortless when she is in front of the camera and is so easy to direct and photograph. I am planning on having a month of swim posts when the weather gets warmer so look at for that. Who can resist Sexy, Surf, Beachy!!!! Manly! If you don't know it. It is one of the northern beaches of Sydney. One of my favourites in the summer, just in touch and just out of touch of everything. And beautiful enough to make you come back for more. Amazing cafe's, restaurants and bars. Not to mention the beaches that are made of golden sand that you want to bag up and take home with you so you can remind yourself how gorgeous this beach is. The people are so laid back a lot of them couldn't give a dime what you are doing as most of them are enjoying the sun anyway.
Has you will see below this is my day at Manly...... well me and my camera and how I saw it on the day and being in the right place at the right time to capture some of the images. I love Black and White and will continue to shoot that medium for the culture section of LaMode or at least till I get bored and decide to change back to colour for a bit. And yes I shoot in raw slapped in Black and White mode so I have my mind tune in for the whole day to see the world in a different light. So if you enjoy a bevy by the sea, some fish "n" chips or a casual day in the sun. Manly is the destination for you! Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of a fashion shoot well. This is a sneak peak of what happen with "Romance Like No Other". It was a small team just me, my stylist and the make-up artist. A tip for young players .....connecting with your model will always help yo get your shots. 11 shots, 4 hours and 780 frames later and it was in the can.
