North to NorthThe power of video has rapidly taken over the power of the still. That is pretty much fact. But with any art form shooting stills is exactly that, an art form. I would like to think that photography is something that everyone can do, and in reality, you can, but to do it in a form that is eye catching and artistic, is not only a challenge for the person creating it, but the knowledge required is usually next level that is only left to the professional. But now that we can shoot video on our phones and then cut any unwanted footage, colour correct and then slap a filter on it to make it half decent and then post it on Instagram. That has taken away the power of the still. Because doesn’t video enable us to tell a better story over a photography? The power of the video is something that I think has taken over the still. Let’s take for example all the new social media platforms that have been born from video, Tik Tok, Snap Chat and now Instagram stories. We all love to be entertained and that is what video does for us, it makes us laugh, cry and most of all it informs us with the information needed to help us with our day or help us pass time. Personally, I shoot video on my DSLR and my I-phone, and then edit it in Premiere Pro. Which gives me a polished look that may or may not be attainable on your phone. And that brings me to this point of where I am today, and what the last two lock downs have done for me and the millions of other people who have used it wisely. It allowed me to focus my energy into learning new skills required to create narratives that are eye catching and informing. It wasn’t something I planned, but two years down the track my future now holds its self with the goal of being the most talented editor/shooter possible so I can create videos that are not only fun to watch but also informative.
