White AngelSo this is the second time this year I have had a model friend of mine ask me to do a shoot with them to help them out with either there business or to update there portfolio. So when Gemma asked me to do a shoot with her again .......You see the first time I worked with her was when she was 17, she is now married with a baby. I jumped at the chance to work with this amazing person again. Not only to help her but as you can imagine to shoot a editorial for LaMode. White Angel took about 5 weeks of hard work to put together. Not only did I shoot it I styled it as well. I pulled clothes from Nicola Finetti and Alexi Freeman both who I have worked with and both designers I love. So when pulling the clothes I had to think of a location that would work with the concept that we had in mind? I have always wanted to use a skate board park as a back drop for a shoot. So I googled searched for one, and the closest one to me was Danielle Park in Summer Hill, Sydney. Once I had checked it out I thought this was perfect for the editorial as I always wanted to shoot on a location like this. It didn't take long to sort out where I was going to shoot and to see what the light would be like, so once that was sorted. All I had to do was pray for a sunny day which as you can see we got. And the results are nothing short of amazing!!!! I have included some behind the scenes video's that my make-up artist shot for us.Which is some thing I love to do as it gives the reader a insight into how we create the pictures you see on LaMode Magazine. When I came up with the idea of shooting around Darling Harbour (Sydney) Which is one of the main tourists attractions, I had to show it in a different way than you would normally see it if I was shooting during say in the middle of the day. So I thought lets shoot in the late avo or I should say late afternoon/early evening light, when the sun is starting to go down.
I love shooting land, sea or city scape's at that time of the day as it gives a very heavy saturated looking feel to your photo's. Mind you .....you have to work fast as the light can change drastically in a matter of minutes, but that can make it a lot more fun when that happen's as you have to work fast. Not only with your framing but also your metering of the light. I always have a preconceived idea how I want my final pictures to look when I am shooting a editorial for LaMode. But sometimes that doesn't always happen due to the fact that you may have clouds in the sky which is not giving you the light you wanted or the content you where hoping that you trying to capture in your photo's. So when that happens, I go back to the practice of thinking light and composition when I am clicking away. And when I do that this is what I come up with .......The Witching Hour. |
