I love the fact that when I am shooting a editorial for LaMode magazine. I have a blank cavan's to play with ..........it usually starts with a rough concept and then it grows from there. Mind you it doesn't always turn out that way. For this editorial I was going to shoot in a way that it told a story rather than the cinematic style as I have done here (And yes there is a difference). Change of concepts happen all the time on shoots not just on this one. Sometimes you have to, maybe because the light is changing or the model that you based your story around may of had to pull out because of a certain reason. Both have happen to me ......but on this occasion it was because I wasn't able to check out the location before the shoot and really turned it into what was going to be a dark and moodier story than the brighter more cinematic editorial that I have shot here. This leads me to ......How many times have you walked past a building, that you have walk past many times before and think to your self. If I shot it in a way that made it look dramatic and or striking, it would make a really cool picture? So when I was thinking of my next culture editorial for LaMode magazine this idea popped into my head ......... A part of my town that I haven't photographed yet, that is not only interesting but would make good "eye" candy.
So here it is the first part of my Sydney CBD culture editorial .........Not to sure when I will get around to documenting the second one or third as I have a couple of fashion editorials to do first. But till then enjoy LOST BroadwayProspective ......that is the word that popped into my head when I was shooting this editorial for LaMode Magazine.
I have been shooting mostly swimwear and a bit of fashion for the last 6 months for LaMode and I thought it was time to change it up for the next month and show case some Culture editorials. For this editorial idea, I had in my head for a long time. So when I was finally able to get out and shoot it I was more than happy with what I had achieved so to speak. I chose "Victoria Park" just off Broadway very close to Sydney university as my subject to document. The Culture in Australia is to run to the beach when ever you want to get away from everything and relax but sometimes that is not always the case if you can't be bothered to drive, catch a bus or walk down to the beach of your choice and there just happens to be a lot of choice. This park has so much Culture and buzz around it I could of sat in one place and candidly taken pic's of the many people that I walked past. But there was also a lot of opportunity to capture the landscapes and the relaxing area's that are around this park. I also love black and white so when it came to shoot in a medium of my choice black and white was always going to be my choice. Last but not least over the next month I will be show casing a couple of "Culture" editorials for LaMode ( this being one of them) so stay tuned for the next one in two weeks but for now ......you can always count on "Broadway" to entertain you!!!! |
